Since opening the doors of the James Wallace Guitar Studio in 1997, James Wallace has taught countless residents of Missoula and surrounding communities how to play the guitar. Students have come from as far away as Kalispell, Butte and Hamilton to draw upon his expertise.To this day, James fosters a positive and productive musical experience in every lesson. He teaches students of all ages, students with a wide variety of musical interests, beginners and advanced players. He reveals the beauty, intricacies and rewards of playing the guitar. Or, to put it another way, he teaches students how to rock out and have fun!

James Wallace
Guitarist James Wallace has been teaching and performing for over 35 years. James graduated from the University of Virginia in 1976. At UVA he read a lot of books, wrote a lot of stories in his creative writing classes, studied art masterpieces and learned a little bit about the history of classical music and music theory. Mostly, however, he played a lot of guitar -- hours each day, in fact -- ignoring admonishments from several professors to put the instrument down or suffer the consequences at semester’s end.

I have been taking guitar lessons from Jim for about 2 1/2 years. He is a very kind and considerate person, as well as a fine guitar instructor. Jim has worked with me when I have conflicts in my schedule, and he has always notified me well in advance if he is going to be unavailable for a lesson. In addition he works with me to make up missed lessons if at all possible.
My mother has been ill for the past couple of years and Jim has been very flexible with my lessons. Jim has a great sense of humor and I always feel comfortable with him, aside from normal lesson anxiety! Without fail he makes suggestions as to how I can improve, and how I can challenge myself. Because of Jim, I often work on things that as a beginner student, may well be beyond the scope of a beginner and I greatly appreciate his confidence in me.
I couldn't ask for a better guitar teacher or a better person than Jim. I highly recommend him as an instructor and would give him 10 stars if I could. Thanks Jim for all you do!

I have been taking lessons with Jim for 20 years and have referred over 20 new students to him. Jim is amazing with young kids and patient with old farts like me. We have studied all forms of music and now I am trying to write my own music and love working out the details with Jim. We are lucky in Missoula to have someone of his quality

I'd never touched a stringed instrument 1 1/2 years ago but due to Jim's willingness to take each student from where they are (from children up to a 74 year old cranky retired teacher) I'm getting to learn to play classical guitar. Jim has worked in extra lessons for me when I want more help and will adjust and modify the lessons when I find something beyond me at the time. I look forward to my guitar lessons each week as he is an excellent teacher as well as musician.
