Greg Nipp When approached by a new student my first objective is to learn what the student's objectives are. Some already have some knowledge of the guitar and possess some playing ability. In some cases it's quite extensive. In such cases the individual has a pretty good idea of what areas they wish to expand upon. Some want to focus on lead playing; others on acoustic blues; still others wish to improve their music reading abilities in order to play in certain church or school groups. Once the goals are established, a plan can be devised and implemented.

But equally welcome are those just starting off with the guitar! Beginners are great because I get to share in their excitement of each new development in the playing process. Above all else, playing the guitar should be fun. And in these early stages that is especially important.

Greg first started playing guitar at age 14. He was soon practicing up to six hours a day and within 3 years Greg was playing in a working band, recording demos and traveling throughout the Southeast. Greg began teaching in 1994 at the request of several friends who would become his first students.

I took guitar lessons from Greg when I was 13 for about three years, and let me just say, he is a phenomenal teacher and musician. I went in day one not knowing how to hold down a fret and was playing guitar solos very well after the first year. Greg knows what he’s talking about and is very understanding and patient when teaching.

Greg is totally my hero. I've taken lessons with him since the beginning of my freshman year, and I'm about to have to leave lessons for college. Man, I'm going to miss him! When I started lessons, I was so confused about it all. With his guidance a little practice, I was using a slide like Bonnie Raitt and working on CC Deville solos.

In short, Greg is the best teacher I could have asked for. Everything he taught me was extremely useful in writing my own music. If you do not understand something, he will work with you and help you make a connection with the material. Over the time I took from Greg, he became more of a friend and mentor to me, rather than just my guitar teacher. If you take from Greg, you will inevitably learn something. Thanks for everything Greg!
