Kanack School of Music Private lessons in Rochester, NY
The philosophy of the school is to combine discipline with fun. Students are encouraged to join classes from improvisation to fiddle, orchestra to virtuoso violins, chamber music to repertoire; all of which encourage discipline while including the support of peers and the beauty of the art of making music. All group classes are free to any students enrolled in private lessons at the school
The Kanack School of Music accepts students of any age. There are toddler classes, and twinkle classes which use the highly regarded Suzuki method for violin, viola, cello, and piano. There are private lessons for many instruments including violin, viola, cello, flute, guitar, voice, and piano. There are teen classes and classes just for adults and senior citizens
The Kanack School holds a day camp every year during the first two weeks in July, which is open to students from the school as well as the community. There are various programs during the year including visits from guest artists who both perform and give master classes. These are always open to the public.

Alice is a Rochester native with degrees in Performance and Composition from the Eastman School of Music. She is an accredited Suzuki Association of Americas teacher, with training both in the US and in Japan with Dr. Shinichi Suzuki. Alice’s “Creative Ability Development” series of books and recordings are currently published by Warner Bros. and are sold internationally.
Jonathan began piano studies at the age of 8- four years after his mom started trying to get him interested in the piano. Since then he has been able to make music from Florida to Washington, and from Italy to Japan. He is currently pursuing a DMA at Eastman with Dr. Douglas Humpherys. Violin, Suzuki Violin, Viola, Suzuki Viola
Margaret Coote, viola, is a native of Northern California. She holds a masters in viola performance from the Eastman School of Music, where she studied with George Taylor. She also studied viola and chamber music with Susan Bates, Paul Yarbrough, Karen Ritscher, and Michelle LaCourse. Ms. Coote teaches violin and viola at the Kanack School of Music, and has previously maintained violin and viola studios at the Eastman Community Music School and the Hochstein School of Music and Dance.
Cello, Suzuki Cello
Katie received her Master’s degree in Classical String Performance from the Irish World Music Centre, University of Limerick, Ireland; and her Bachelor of Music degree in Performance from Ithaca College. She is an accredited Suzuki cello teacher as well. Her training in Suzuki education was at the International Music Festival in Berea, Ohio and at the Institute Suzuki in Montreal.
Laura Lentz is a professional flutist and music educator based in Rochester, NY. She holds music degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the Crane School of Music (SUNY Potsdam) in Flute Performance and is certified in instrumental and general music education. Robert is a Syracuse native who is currently studying at the Eastman School of Music with Nicholas Goluses pursuing a B.M. in Applied Music and Music Education. Robert also enjoys composing and playing chamber music, and is excited to bring guitar to the Kanack School of Music's great community.
