Tiny Voice Box My students are...performing professionally in music clubs, bars, and other venues. performing at The Kalamazoo Civic Theatre, The Paw Paw Village Players, Kindleberger Summer Festival Community Theatre, and in middle and high school musical productions. attending Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp and Western Michigan University's "Seminar" Summer Music Camp, and New York City's "Triple Threat Program." auditioning for "The X Factor," singing in pageants, acting in movies and commercials. writing and recording their own music. receiving scholarships from arts councils and performing arts organizations. entering national competitions. singing solo in church. playing guitar or piano to accompany themselves.

I could teach a few other things, but I'm a voice specialist. Here's how I describe the students in my studio and who will typically match well with my teaching style.

Young people who...are high school or middle school age. are seeking well-rounded vocal preparation that emphasizes contemporary music styles. want to (or are already) performing in school and community productions. are considering a career in the performing arts or going to college for music. may have had previous vocal training, or are just beginning.

Professional or amateur musicians/vocalists who...seek to improve their vocal abilities. need to work on problem issues. want support and guidance for their career.Adults who...want to (or are already) singing in church or with a community group. curiously drawn to singing lessons for some other reason (let's talk!).

Ashley Daneman
Owner
Ashley (Gonzalez) Daneman, is a jazz vocalist and composer based out of Kalamazoo, Michigan. Noted as "a fine young jazz vocalist" (USA Today), she creates intimate audio landscapes with rich harmonies and pop/folk influences. All About Jazz says that Ashley "owns a decidedly individualistic style and a willingness to take interpretive risks, the true hallmark of the dedicated jazz musician." As a composer, Ashley has been awarded regional grants and artist residencies such as Betty Carter's Jazz Ahead (2003: Washington, DC) and The Banff Centre's Jazz and Creative Workshop (2010: Alberta, Canada).

A native of Toledo, Ohio, Ashley spent ten years living on the East coast after college and completed a masters degree in Jazz Vocal Performance at Manhattan School of Music under the direction of Peter Eldridge, Kate McGarry, and Theo Bleckmann. Her music is also heavily influenced by Dianne Reeves, Betty Carter, and Joni Mitchell. She performs around the U.S. with her band, including her husband, trumpeter Benje Daneman. The Daneman's have two daughters.

Ashley is such an incredible talent to have available in our community. She understood my daughter's voice immediately to help her target her talent, hone in on her skills and improve in areas needed to achieve success.
