Melinda Vickrey Piano & Vocal Music Instruction

Piano lessons are offered to students age 5 and over. Students can pursue either the Certificate of Merit program in piano, or can have their own specialized curriculum designed specifically suited to their individual musical goals. Melinda never uses boring method books, but instead utilizes music from a wide variety of exciting genres. Technique, music theory, sight-reading, and artistry are emphasized to provide a full musical education for the pianist. For younger students check out "Budding Beethovens" on our website.

Voice lessons are available for students starting at age 7. Occasionally, younger students are accepted into the voice program if demonstrate the muscle control and focus necessary for the mastery of vocal technical skills. Certificate of Merit is also offered in voice, or students can choose a tailor-made program based on their own musical interests. Hear vocal improvement in your first 30 minutes!

Budding Beethovens is an entirely new program designed to equip young students ages 4-6 with the foundational music skills they will need to be successful as future musicians. Designed by a degree-ed musician with 20 years teaching experience, students will be delighted as they learn musical concepts in an uncomplicated, engaging, and effortless way.

Program Elements include: Basics of Music Theory Note values Rhythmic training Keyboard preparedness Ear-training & Music Dictation Introduction to Solfedge (do-re-mi) & Sight-singing Emphasis on pitch accuracy Plus an whole lot of fun!

Certificate of Merit is a total musicianship program that delivers an unparalleled musical education. Registration with the Music Teachers' Association of California (MTAC) is required to participate. Students register and prepare for yearly testing with their private, MTAC-member instructor. Testing is made up of two components: a written music theory portion and a performance evaluation that includes sight-reading for pianists or sight-singing for vocalists, technique, ear-training and the performance of memorized repertoire. Offered annually and adjudicated by MTAC-trained evaluators, students who successfully pass the requirements for their registered level of music study receive an evaluation report and are awarded a Certificate of Merit for that level. Preparatory through advanced levels are offered. Students must be at least age 5 by Oct. 31st of the current year to participate.
